Students are supported by effective teachers and leaders.

Effective teachers and leaders play an essential role in assuring that students are on track to successfully complete their K-12 education experience. If standards are the backbone for student learning, effective teachers and leaders provide the means of delivery for quality instruction and strong academic programs. It is imperative that we, as a state, support teachers and school leaders so they can constantly grow as professionals and provide for rigorous, relevant learning in their classrooms and schools.

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

The Department of Education provides support for models of teacher and principal evaluation focused on continuous professional growth.

A statewide mentoring program has been created to support first- and second-year teachers and improve teacher retention.

Efforts are ongoing to support the development of principals who are strong instructional leaders through programs like Aspiring School Leaders.
