Leading Innovation and Change through Systems Thinking and Equity is a pilot by the South Dakota Department of Education to create and support a network of South Dakota schools that will develop locally inspired innovation to address needs of a diverse population of students and educators.
The goals of this series of trainings include:
- Explore systems thinking and how it can be leveraged to initiate and accelerate change.
- Examine change theory and a framework for change that can be applied to nearly every initiative.
- Develop and/or sustain a culture of commitment to growth.
- Distribute leadership throughout the school system to expand capacity to establish and meet high expectations.
- Identify inequities within a system and collectively develop strategies for overcoming them.
- Build trust, capacity, collegiality and sustainability through shared experiences and purpose.
Application Process
A school or school district applies as a team. One person may complete the application for the team. A team must include at least one administrator (superintendent, principal, curriculum director, etc.) and at least one classroom teacher. The team can be composed of up to four team members. If you have questions regarding your team make-up, please contact Deb Wolf. It is the expectation that all team members will attend all sessions.
The application process is designed to ensure a cohort that consists of members from diverse backgrounds, experiences and geographical locations. Approximately 40 participants (about 10 teams) will be chosen.
Program Meeting Dates
Upon selection, teams will be expected to attend the following meetings:
- Summer Institute: July 31-Aug. 2, Pierre
- Fall Colloquium: Oct. 12-13, Pierre
- Winter Colloquium: Jan. 18-19, 2019, Pierre
- Spring Colloquium: March 22-23, 2019, Pierre
Costs
There is no registration fee for this training. Substitute and travel reimbursements are available if needed.
